Service Continuum

Preschool

Our services begin with preschool at Porter Lakes Elementary School. Preschool is offered for students who are 3 up until they enter kindergarten. Special education services are available to students based on individual needs, the educational evaluation, and the case conference committee right in the student’s home school. Our students learn the staff, and environment, and become part of the Porter Lakes family beginning at age 3! We also serve students from MSD of Boone Township and East Porter Township Schools.

Resource Support

Some students need assistance while in the general education classroom to access curriculum, instruction, assessment, and pacing. Students with special needs may experience special education staff as they push into the general education classroom or students may access support in the special education classroom according to the student’s Individualized Education Plan.

Specialized Programmatic Support

Some students with special needs will not find success with resource support and need more specialized programmatic support. These supports could target academic support, functional academics, life skill instruction, social skill instruction, or target emotional or behavioral needs. These settings are structured to allow flow between specialized environments and work within the general education environment. Within Porter Township we have specialized programs for students with more severe academic needs. We also serve students from Union Township (Wheeler), East Porter Township Schools (Washington Township, Morgan Township, Kouts), and MSD of Boone Township (Hebron). For students with greater emotional or behavioral needs, we partner with MSD of Boone Township for specialized programming.

Special Education Learning Facility (SELF School)

We provide services in a separate educational setting for students with needs we cannot meet in one of our specialized programs. Transportation is provided to SELF School and these classrooms provide programs to meet the more challenging needs of these students.
