Porter Lakes Open House -

Porter Lakes Elementary will be open for parents and students to look around and get familiar with our school on Wednesday, May, 23 from 5:00 PM -7:00 PM.  Because we are busy finishing up this school year the rooms will not be opened and teachers will not be here.  But, we will have signs outside each door so that everyone can see where classrooms will be located next year.

The school will also be open in August during the day (8:00 AM – 3:00 PM) and on Wednesday evenings (Aug. 8th & 15th) from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM.

Please remember that Elementary Registration will be held on Wednesday, August 1st from 9:00-1:00 and 2:00-6:00 for all Kindergarten through 3rd Grade PorterTownship students.  If your child attended PLE or BGE this year you will register on August 1st.

Please know that this is not a time to meet and talk to the teachers.  They are not required to attend as they have a number other commitments as we get closer to the end of the year.  Mr. Lichtenberger, however, will be available for questions.

You will be able to see where the different classrooms will be located along with seeing the gymnasium, cafeteria, library, computer lab and art room.  All of these rooms will be labeled with a sign above the doors.  You will also find out where your student will be entering the building when they get off the bus in the mornings.

With all of the remodeling going on during the summer at the BGE/BGMS complex, there may not be another opportunity to tour the building until after registration in the fall, right before school begins.

H1N1 Virus -

News from the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention

The CDC recommends that people with influenza-like illness remain at home until at least 24 hours after they are free of fever (100° F [37.8°C]), or signs of a fever without the use of fever-reducing medications.
The determination of readiness to return to school should be made when at least 24 hours have passed since the ill person’s temperature first remained normal without the use of these medications.
Because some people may shed influenza virus before they feel ill, and because some people with influenza will not have a fever, it is important that all people cover their cough and wash hands often.
Continue to practice good respiratory etiquette and hand hygiene and avoid close contact with people they know to be at increased risk of influenza-related complications.
